The "Truck-Drivin' Man"

Gets His say at Last...

When it comes to this particular book, I like to say that I'm the man JoAnna Lund had "in mind" when she started out cooking healthy more than six years ago. At that time, I had no idea how our lives would be changed by her decision to find a new road for herself, one that would lead to a healthy lifestyle and a weight loss of 130 pounds.

I'm proud of her accomplishment, and I'm happy to have been part of her inspiration to pull it off. But there's more to it. I'm like most men: if food doesn't look, taste, and smell good, I just won't eat it. After all, I know the way to the nearest fast-food place or truck stop.

What made Healthy Exchanges work for both of us was that JoAnna's recipes took into consideration the kind of foods both she and her family liked. She stirred up spicy Mexican and hearty Italian dishes because she knew they were my favorites. She invented more than a few ways for Tommy to enjoy his best-loved food, cheeseburgers. She won James over by figuring out how to make kolaches almost as good as his grandma's. And she treated Becky to healthy pies brimming with her preferred flavors like bananas and butterscotch.

In my opinion, Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind is JoAnna's best collection of recipes yet. Every page promises something so good to eat, the men in your family will ask for seconds with a smile. I've tasted every single dish in here, and if you leave out the ones with broccoli in 'em (there aren't too many, i'm happy to report...), I liked them all!

     Eat hearty!
